Dr. Monica Thongam Nakra is an experienced academician and a government-certified psychologist with over 19 years in the field of mental health. She currently serves as an Assistant Professor at Lingaya’s Vidyapeeth. Dr. Nakra began her academic journey by earning a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from HNB Garhwal University (Central University). She then completed her MA in Psychology (Clinical) from the same institution and obtained her MSc in Psychotherapy and Psychological Counselling in 2008 from IPMS in Mumbai.To further enhance her skills, she completed a Bachelor of Education at a Central University. Additionally, she pursued a Foundation Course in Special Education from Bhoj University in Madhya Pradesh, a Certificate Course in Psychological First Aid from Johns Hopkins University, and a Certificate in Teaching English from IGNOU in 2010. Dr. Nakra has completed her Ph.D. in Psychology from Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies in Faridabad.

Throughout her career, Dr. Nakra has held various roles as a special educator and mental health counsellor in reputable organizations, including Bajaj Institute of Technology, DIT University, and Tender Heart. She has actively volunteered and worked on various mental health platforms such as Counsel India and Astro Talk as a Panel Psychologist and Consultant Psychologist.

Dr. Nakra has provided counseling to youth dealing with a range of mental health conditions, including Major Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, and addiction issues. She has also provided emergency services for critical situations like suicidality, homicidally, and sexual assault. As part of her commitment to mental health, she has collaborated closely with psychiatrists, psychologists, clinical social workers, and other mental health professionals to organize workshops and conduct lectures. She serves as a faculty advisor for Student Clubs at the University and is an official member of the Student Consultative Committee, the Girls Hostel Special Committee, and the Women’s Welfare Cell.

To further her dedication to societal service, Dr. Nakra is registered with the Rehabilitation Council of India. She is also a Lifetime Member of the Counsellors Council of India, a Life Associate Member of the Society for Addiction Psychology, Teacher Member of the American Psychological Association, and a Professional Member of International Council of Psychologist. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she made herself available as an online mental health counsellor through RCI, volunteered with Step One in the fight against COVID-19, and volunteered as a professional mental health counsellor at the National Commission for Women in New Delhi.She is committed to educating and guiding youth on how to lead efficient and fulfilling lives that contribute positively to society.
