The Department of Mathematics successfully organized a two-day celebration of International Mathematics Day on 23rd February 2026 under the theme “From Ramanujan to Pi: Mathematics as the Foundation of Modern Thought,” commemorating the birth anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan.
The motive of the event was to honor Ramanujan’s contributions, highlight the universal significance of Pi (π), and promote mathematics as the foundation of modern science, technology, economics, and innovation while enhancing students’ analytical, research, and presentation skills.
Day 1 featured an online lecture by Prof. Dr. V. K. Bhat (School of Mathematics, SMVDU, J&K) followed by the screening of The Man Who Knew Infinity. Day 2 included an Inter-Department Presentation and Debate Competition with participation from eight departments. The winners were Pragya (Department of Computer Science) and Divyani (Department of Agriculture).
