Dr. Gaurav Sharma

Assistant Professor & Head

Department of Civil Engineering

Dr. Gaurav Sharma earned his B.Tech. in Civil Engineering from Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, Punjab, in 2011, followed by an M.Tech. in Structural and Construction Engineering from the Dr. B. R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar (NITJ), in 2015. He subsequently completed his Ph.D. in Structural Engineering at the Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (TIET), Patiala, in January 2022. His doctoral dissertation, titled “Studies on the Mechanical Behavior of FRP Reinforced Concrete Beams Using Acoustic Emission and Digital Image Correlation,” advanced the understanding of FRP-reinforced concrete systems through the application of sophisticated non-destructive evaluation techniques.

With extensive expertise in the experimental testing of FRP-reinforced concrete structures, Dr. Sharma has made significant contributions using acoustic emission and digital image processing methods. He further broadened his research portfolio as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Incheon National University, South Korea (September 2023 – July 2024), where he engaged in cutting-edge research on the microstructural characterization of advanced cement-based materials and innovative material testing methodologies.

Dr. Sharma’s core research interests encompass the design and behavior of FRP-reinforced concrete structures, advanced cementitious materials, and sustainable construction technologies. His work is primarily oriented toward structural performance evaluation, concrete technology, and the development of eco-efficient, high-performance cement-based composites. He is presently supervising two M.Tech. scholars and three Ph.D. candidates, contributing to both academic excellence and the advancement of structural engineering research.
