Once a reactive discipline, pharmacovigilance has now evolved into a proactive, data-driven science dedicated to detecting, assessing, and preventing adverse drug reactions (ADRs). This transformation is critical because patient-reported experiences have become a powerful source of information that guides regulators, manufacturers, and healthcare professionals in making medicines safer for everyone.
National Pharmacovigilance Week, an annual observance in India, is a reminder that drug safety is a shared responsibility. The 5th National Pharmacovigilance Week, held from September 17 to 23, 2025, was a milestone in advancing a patient-centric drug safety system.
With its theme, “Your Safety, Just a Click Away: Report to PvPI,” the event highlighted India’s commitment to making pharmacovigilance reporting more transparent and accessible. This digital-first approach marked a paradigm shift toward building a culture of vigilance, where patients and healthcare professionals actively report ADRs rather than fearing them.
Educational institutions like Lingayas Vidyapeeth play a critical role in shaping the future of pharmaceutical education and patient safety. The School of Pharmacy at Lingayas aligned with the national theme and organized impactful educational activities during the week.
A highlight was the webinar on September 19, 2025, conducted by Rishi Kant Pandey, Assistant Director of Global Vigilance at Fresenius Kabi Oncology Ltd. With 15+ years of expertise, he connected academic learning with real-world applications of global drug safety. His session helped students understand complex pharmacovigilance practices, while reinforcing the importance of ethics and professional responsibility in the field.
