Home » 5th National Pharmacovigilance Week: Building Vigilance Culture
The safety of medicines is the non-negotiable cornerstone of modern healthcare. While clinical trials ensure a drug’s initial safety, the true test begins when it is used by millions of people worldwide. This is where the science of pharmacovigilance plays a vital role, acting as a vigilant watchdog for public health.
Once a reactive discipline, pharmacovigilance has now evolved into a proactive, data-driven science dedicated to detecting, assessing, and preventing adverse drug reactions (ADRs). This transformation is critical because patient-reported experiences have become a powerful source of information that guides regulators, manufacturers, and healthcare professionals in making medicines safer for everyone.
National Pharmacovigilance Week, an annual observance in India, is a reminder that drug safety is a shared responsibility. The 5th National Pharmacovigilance Week, held from September 17 to 23, 2025, was a milestone in advancing a patient-centric drug safety system.
With its theme, “Your Safety, Just a Click Away: Report to PvPI,” the event highlighted India’s commitment to making pharmacovigilance reporting more transparent and accessible. This digital-first approach marked a paradigm shift toward building a culture of vigilance, where patients and healthcare professionals actively report ADRs rather than fearing them.
Educational institutions like Lingayas Vidyapeeth play a critical role in shaping the future of pharmaceutical education and patient safety. The School of Pharmacy at Lingayas aligned with the national theme and organized impactful educational activities during the week.
A highlight was the webinar on September 19, 2025, conducted by Rishi Kant Pandey, Assistant Director of Global Vigilance at Fresenius Kabi Oncology Ltd. With 15+ years of expertise, he connected academic learning with real-world applications of global drug safety. His session helped students understand complex pharmacovigilance practices, while reinforcing the importance of ethics and professional responsibility in the field.
On September 22, 2025, a poster presentation event allowed students to showcase their understanding of pharmacovigilance topics such as:
These activities trained students to present complex scientific concepts in a clear, concise, and patient-friendly way—an essential skill for future pharmacists.
The pharmacy curriculum at Lingayas Vidyapeeth goes beyond traditional academics. It emphasizes hands-on training in pharmacology, toxicology, regulatory affairs, and pharmacovigilance systems. With strong industry connections and faculty expertise, students gain exposure to:
The event was successfully coordinated by Ms. Namrata Bhadauria and Mr. Faisal Khan, under the guidance of Dr. Ajay Pal Singh, Dean of the School of Pharmacy—reflecting the university’s deep commitment to excellence.
Lingayas Vidyapeeth instills in its students the responsibility of becoming drug safety ambassadors in their communities. Students are encouraged to raise awareness about ADR reporting to PvPI, ensuring patients become active partners in safeguarding their own health.
This patient-centric approach trains pharmacists to communicate complex medical information in simple, understandable language—helping bridge the gap between healthcare professionals and the public.
The 5th National Pharmacovigilance Week reaffirmed that patient safety in India is a shared mission involving healthcare professionals, regulators, institutions, and patients. By actively participating, Lingayas Vidyapeeth strengthens its position as a leader in pharmaceutical education and pharmacovigilance training.
Through its proactive initiatives, the university is nurturing a new generation of pharmacists who will become global leaders in drug safety—proving that medicine safety is not just a concept but a core professional value.
